In 2019, I reluctantly agreed to my family’s request of getting a puppy. After raising two Great Dane’s that passed 7 years prior, I was still feeling the emotional and financial drain of the responsibilities of being a pet owner. I researched breeds and found that a Tibetan Terror was a nearly perfect fit for our family dynamic and the breeders were exceptional in their ways of protecting the souls of these animals. Through undoubtedly divine interventions, I was gifted the ability to be Cedric’s mom and off we went to puppy training! I poured ALL of my energy into ensuring that he was a well balanced dog with no intentions of using him in therapeutic ways. Fast forward 4 years, and I find myself in a Hospice of the Valley training with an individual who was in this volunteer training so that her dog could go to the hospice house to visit. I hadn’t considered this for Cedric, but knew immediately that this was the path. I took him into even more training for this certification and on that journey went.

Shortly after, I accepted a position as a psychotherapist under a grant that was aiming to offer pet therapy. As we visited groups in the community, Cedric created a name on the news and social media. He works with me in individual therapy sessions, visits the Hospice House, visits my individual Hospice of the Valley patients, nursing homes, and attends group events for children and individuals with developmental disabilities. Cedric is no different than one of my children when it comes to our bond and the care that I give him. He is such a blessing to this world!
